‘The Newspaper Men’ The Doris Brothers & Ireland 1893-1923

‘The Newspaper Men’ tells the story of the Doris brothers, William and P.J., through their editorials and news reports in their newspaper, “The Mayo News”, between 1893 and 1923.

Their story and differing viewpoints bring the turbulent years of Ireland’s history alive.

To better hear their voices, independent author Padraig McLoughlin has created a character called “The Man-in-the-Street” who, at the end of each year, questions the brothers’ attitudes to events in said year. This is a highly original approach to narrating historical events and a unique way of engaging the reader from beginning to end.
